Stolen/Future
A downloadable game for Windows
Once...the future seemed like it could have been anything.
It could even have been for us.
Stolen/Future is a game about a world where technocratic capitalist oligarchs have seized control of things that should really belong to everyone. People there struggle with familiar problems: Paying the rent, medical debt, poltergeist infestations...
Wait. Maybe that last one is a little different.
Stolen/Future gives you a front-row seat in the mind and life of Faruq “Israfil” Hasani, sorcerer and freelance exorcist, as he tries to put one foot in front of the other in a world that is indifferent to people who don't fit in. Navigate social awkwardness, complex emotional landscapes, and exciting RPG-style battles with mechanics inspired by popular card games to help Israfil get through another week.
Features:
- A e s t h e t i c! Colorful, retro-futuristic vibes and a blending of hand-drawn and pixel art styles.
- Story-focused! Stolen/Future has its roots in classic turn-based RPGs and dialogue- and choice-heavy games like visual novels. Despite using mechanics based on card games, you won't have to be good at deck-building to experience Stolen/Future's world and characters.
- Accessibility goals! Everything is turn-based; no timing or reflex-oriented gameplay. The final version will have options to minimize or disable screen flashing and effects that might be dangerous for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Please note that these options are not yet implemented in the demo. While it'll be impossible to guarantee Stolen/Future will be 100% safe for gamers with these conditions, a good-faith effort is being made. The Stolen/Future dev pledges to revise/update parts of the game to increase safety after release if issues are discovered.
- Real life is diverse! Stolen/Future features a cast of characters with diverse backgrounds, just like real life. If anyone complains about this, they will be told in no uncertain terms exactly how valuable their opinions are.
- Cats! (Does this actually require more explanation?)
- An underground rock concert with a cool indie band! You know, if you’re interested. If not, that’s cool, too…don’t want to seem desperate or anything.
